ISSUE 32 - MAY 2009

A word from the
Dealer Principal

Hasn't it been wonderful to finally receive some great, season-breaking rains and to see the lawns and countryside green up so quickly.

Many of you, like us, are assessing the impact of the recent Federal budget. One of the positives to come out of it is the 30% to 50% additional tax deduction on equipment purchases including motor vehicles.

Our business continued to progress well through the month and May is looking like finishing up well again.

Thanks to all our staff for their hard work.

We trust you enjoy this months issue. Happy and safe motoring.

50% TAX BREAK

From now until 31st December businesses will be eligible to apply for the Federal Government’s Small Business and General Business Tax Break.

Businesses will be able to claim an additional 50 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets from now until the end of the year with concessions for small businesses.

The temporary business tax break will help Australian businesses boost investment, bolster economic activity, and support Australian jobs during the difficult times that we are facing.

Small businesses will be eligible to claim an additional 50 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets costing $1,000 or more acquired from 13th December 2008 to 31st December 2009, and installed by 31st December 2010.

In order for a small business to benefit from this tax break they must have a turnover of $2 million or less a year.

Other businesses can receive a 30 per cent deduction for eligible assets greater than $10,000 purchased from 13th December 2008 to 30th June 2009 and installed by 30th June 2010.

A 10 per cent tax deduction will apply for eligible assets acquired from 1st July to 31st December 2009 and installed before 31st December 2010.

The tax bonus will apply to tangible assets with depreciating value used in everyday business activities, including fleet vehicles.

QUOTE OF
THE
MONTH

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

THE WORLD’S CHEAPEST CAR HAS ARRIVED - BUT NOT HERE!

The world’s cheapest car has been launched onto the Indian market offering drivers the option to transport the family in a no-frills vehicle.

Pricing on the new Tata Nano start at US$2,000 (AUS$2,900) for the base model Nano, which houses a two-cylinder 0.6-litre, rear-mounted engine that achieves a top speed of 105km/h.

In-line with its no frills approach, the Nano features a four-speed manual transmission, no air conditioning, no electric windows, and no power steering.

A deluxe version is set for release later in the year with a European model to follow in 2011 including airbags and a leather trim.

This will come at a higher price, but still miles below any other car manufacturer.

Environmentalists fear the climate impact the new Nano will have on the environment, given that India’s population of 1.1 billion still consider cars a luxury, but now this will no longer be the case.

However, the Nano releases only 101g/km CO2 emissions – less than many other vehicles.

With 72 million motorbikes and scooters on Indian roads, congestion is set to become a serious issue, with original targets for production of the Nano set at 250,000 in the first year.

This has been cut down to between 30,000 to 50,000, due to limited production capacity, meaning the Nano will allow many Indians to take to four wheels for the first time.

Whatever the environmental impact, the Nano is a car available to the masses making driving affordable for many more people.

BEEF STEW WITH PARSLEY DUMPLINGS - A WINTER WARMER

INGREDIENTS

Stew

1kg beef chuck steak, cut into 5cm pieces
2 tablespoons plain flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
20g butter
2 medium brown onions (300g), chopped coarsely
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 medium carrots (240g), chopped coarsely
1 cup (250ml) dry red wine
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 cups (500ml) beef stock
4 sprigs fresh thyme

Parsley Dumplings

1 cup (150g) self-raising flour
50g butter
1 egg, beaten lightly
¼ cup (20g) coarsely grated parmesan cheese
¼ cup finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1/3 cup (50g) drained sun-dried tomatoes,
finely chopped
¼ cup (60ml) milk

METHOD

Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced.

Coat beef in flour; shake off excess. Heat oil in large flameproof dish; cook beef, in batches, until browned.

Melt butter in same dish; cook onion, garlic and carrot, stirring, until vegetables soften. Add wine; cook, stirring, until liquid reduces to ¼ cup. Return beef with paste, stock and thyme; bring to the boil. Cover, transfer to oven; cook 1 3/4 hours.

Meanwhile, make parsley dumpling mixture.

Remove dish from oven. Drop level tablespoons of dumpling mixture, about 2cm apart, onto top of stew. Cook, uncovered, about 20 minutes or until dumplings are browned lightly and cooked through.

Parsley dumplings: Place flour in medium bowl; rub in butter. Stir in egg, cheese, parsley, tomato and enough milk to make a soft, sticky dough.
