A word from the
Dealer Principal

With December fast approaching, it’s tempting to ask where the year has gone!
The motor vehicle industry continues to be strong in Australia, and 2006 should close out around only 3% down from the all time record set last year. It’s not surprising though, as there have been some amazing models this year, with better specifications than ever before.
This month has again been one of outstanding achievements for our dealership which we have dedicated a specific section for.
We will profile the all new Hyundai Santa Fe CRDi diesel, along with the new Ford Fairmont Ghia.
We’re really encouraged by the number of readers who called or emailed your favourable comments on our first e-news. We hope you enjoy this issue just as much and wish you all safe and enjoyable driving.

Andrew Brown,
Dealer Principal.

Gaze out the window of the new Fairmont Ghia and you might expect to see the passing countryside to be adorned with windmills, castles and snow-covered alps. Such is the character and technology of the new Fairmont Ghia, that it feels very European.
While remaining true to its Australian heritage there’s no denying this is a luxury vehicle with a very European soul. From its sleek exterior styling to the luxuriously appointed interior, the new Fairmont Ghia is unlike any other locally built sedan.
To say the Fairmont Ghia has real road presence is an understatement. Both elegant and purposeful in design, the new tapered bonnet, chrome grille, dark accent headlamps and sports bumper give the Fairmont Ghia an air of unquestionable confidence.
Complement this with 17” alloy wheels, sculptured side skirts and the exposed chrome exhaust and you have a vehicle that offers both performance prestige. All these extras and with a price of over $6000 less than the previous model. You'll be cheering all the way from Europe.

Congratulations to Nick Horsburgh (Ford Salesperson) who wowed the judges with his knowledge, skill and impressive vehicle presentation in the recent National Ford Falcon Knowledge competition.
As the regional champion, Nick went head to head with the other states at the Sydney Motor Show and took the championship. His prize? A brand new XR6! Well done Nick!
As a dealership we’re proud of Nick, and the entire team who placed 5 in the top 10 in South Australia.
Further highlights for the month were in our service department with David Twigg, Robert Pryde, Michael Daish and Michael Woods having completed the last module of their studies, meaning they are now Ford Master Technicians. Master status is a wonderful personal achievement and great asset to our dealership, as we’re now the only Ford dealer in SA with this many Master Technicians. With SA only having 7 in total, you really are in good hands when you get your car serviced with us!

| Diesel Santa Fe Already a Winner |
 |
Santa Fe CRDi, the just-launched new turbo-diesel version of Hyundai’s stylish Santa Fe AWD range, is already a winner on two fronts, locally and in New Zealand.
According to the federal government’s ADR 81/01 comparative fuel and emission figures, the Santa Fe CRDi SX manual at 7.3 litres/100km is the most fuel efficient all-wheel-drive SUV on the Australian market, equal with the micro-sized Suzuki Jimny.
In CO² (carbon dioxide) emissions, excepting Jimny, Santa Fe CRDi SX manual is the cleanest at 191gm/km, bettering even the hybrid electric-petrol Lexus RX400h.
Santa Fe CRDi SX automatic at 8.1 litres/100km matches the hybrid electric-petrol Lexus RX400h as the most fuel economical automatic SUV on the Australian market, Jimny aside.
As the first softroader SUV AWD to offer the clean economy advantage of a latest technology diesel power alternative to petrol, Santa Fe CRDi’s class-leading figures show its superiority against its two major sales competitors, Ford’s Territory AWD at 12.8 l/100km and 304 gm/km and Toyota Kluger’s 12.3 and 294, as well as Holden’s newcomer Daewoo-sourced Captiva at 11.5 (11.6 for Captiva Maxx) and 265.
Generating this superiority is Santa Fe CRDi’s Hyundai-designed, 2.2 litre, four-cylinder, alloy-head, SOHC 16-valve turbo-diesel engine. Quiet, smooth and smoke-free, it is a latest technology CRDi (common-rail, direct injection) design with a variable-vane-geometry air-to-air-intercooled turbocharger, Euro-4 emission calibration and a balance-shaft module in the crankcase.
The CRDi engine teams with a new five-speed, driver-adaptive, Selectronic automatic transmission with a manual override mode or a new, compact three-axis five-speed manual gearbox, both of which seamlessly stream the engine’s torque up through the speed range.
Either drive train bestows Santa Fe CRDi with satisfyingly strong acceleration — especially on the move for overtaking — and effortless holding of fifth gear on highway hills thanks to a healthy 343 Nm of maximum torque between constantly-used 1800 and 2500 rpm and its peak power of 114kW at just 4000rpm.
Towing will be another treat for Santa Fe CRDi among its petrol-powered competitors, given diesel’s much higher torque — the essential quality of ‘pulling power’ — at low engine revs and its maintenance of good fuel economy even when working hard hauling a heavy load compared to larger capacity petrol engines’ marked consumption increases in like circumstances. Santa Fe CRDi is rated to tow a braked trailer up to 2000kg.

Car manufacturers love to brag about it, salespeople love to talk about it, but what actually is torque? Torque is a term used in physics that means a twisting force. This doesn’t relate to turning corners, however, but to the engine.
In your engine, ‘torque’ is the force the engine applies to the crankshaft. That means that the higher the torque, the quicker your car will respond when you put your foot down. But torque doesn’t make any difference to your maximum acceleration.
