HYUNDAI'S BEST EVER YEAR

Final results for 2009 saw Hyundai post its best-ever annual result since the brand was introduced to Australia back in 1986.

Hyundai sales grew to 63,207 units, an increase of 39.2 per cent over 2008 making the brand the clear winner in the 2009 sales race, following 12 consecutive months of year-on-year growth.

This was achieved in a year where the market only increased by 7.4 per cent compared to the previous year.

The best results came from the award-winning Hyundai i30, which achieved a sales growth of 109.9 per cent over its 2008 results, while the Getz registered as the best selling light car of 2009.

These results led to Hyundai being ranked as the 5th best selling automotive brand for the year.

NEW SEDAN SET SALES RECORD

Hyundai’s daring new mid-size sedan, which is set to debut in Australia in a few months, is already breaking records in South Korea.

Over 100,000 contracts have been signed since the car went on sale on the 17th September last year.

This equates to more than 1,000 contracts per day since its debut in the domestic market and sets a new record in South Korea’s vehicle sales.

The much anticipated all-new mid-sized sedan, code-named YF, is due to enter the Australian market in the first half of 2010.

Its ‘fluidic sculpture’ styling reflects Hyundai’s new design architecture, a philosophy which will make its debut in the upcoming all-new ix35 compact SUV, supporting a broader brand appeal.

WEEKEND GETAWAYS

The holidays are now over and it is time to settle back into work and the normal hustle and bustle of the working week.

But when the weekend roles around, it is time to hit the road and enjoy the last of the sunshine.

There is an abundance of great weekend destinations throughout Victoria, some within 90 minutes of Melbourne’s CBD, while others may be better suited to an overnight stay.

Here are some of our top driving destinations for the summertime;

Great Ocean Road

Take a drive down one of Victoria’s most renowned stretches of road starting in Geelong, where you can stop for a swim anywhere along Victoria’s surf coast, including Bells Beach and Jan Juc.

You can also explore the rainforests of the Ottoway Ranges and the Twelve Apostles or stop over in the historic towns of Queenscliff, Warrnambool or Port Fairy, taking in the sceneries of the rugged shipwreck coast.

Mornington Peninsula

Enjoy driving through the 260km of coastline of the Mornington Peninsula. Stop at any of the calm, sandy beaches of Port Philip Bay or ride the waves of the ocean beaches, at Portsea, Sorrento, Rye and Gunnamatta.

There are numerous picnic and camping areas available along the foreshores of the Mornington Peninsula, as well as golf courses and walking tracks or you can stop at the Red Hill market, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month from September to May.

You can even join your drive of the Mornington Peninsula with the Bellarine Peninsula by catching the hourly car and passenger ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff.

Phillip Island

Visit Philip Island and take in the sights of the wonderful nature and wildlife. With family activities including fishing, boating, swimming or surfing, there is plenty of action to keep everyone busy.

Watch the penguin parade at sunset and see nature take place before your eyes. Also see the koala and bird life or take in your surroundings at Seal Rocks.
