A MESSAGE FROM THE
MANAGING DIRECTOR

Patrick Tessier

Welcome to the January edition of Traveltalk

Hello everyone, happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of Traveltalk for 2009. As most of you will know by now we have changed our name from Travelfest to Corporate Blue. We’ll still provide the same great service that you’ve become accustomed to over the years.

One thing we’ve become renowned for is our study tours to the NADA (National Automobile Dealers Association) Convention in the US. This year we have 90 people departing with us to New Orleans on January 21, for the convention which will run from January 24-27.

The NADA Convention is the largest industry convention of any kind in the world, with up to 30,000 delegates, and our study tours are an annual highlight for those who regularly make the trip. This year the convention features speeches from former Presidents George H.W. Bush (that’s the older one) and Bill Clinton, which just shows how important it is.

Ford Motor Co. President and CEO Alan Mulally will deliver the keynote address during the General Assembly on Saturday, January 24, while Christopher Gardner, the inspiration for the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness,” will give a motivational talk.

It’s also a great social occasion and a chance to see one of the world’s most colourful cities. Of course, since we were last there New Orleans has suffered dreadfully from the effects of Hurricane Katrina, so it will be interesting to see the progress of rebuilding efforts.

There is always so much for delegates to learn and bring back to apply to their businesses, and we will be sure to pass on any new knowledge once we get back.

Welcome to Corporate Blue!

Happy New Year everyone, and let us all hope for a recovery from last year’s economic woes.

As we told you in our December edition, we have undergone a name change. No longer are we Travelfest; you can now call us Corporate Blue. But we will still take care of all your travel needs using the best resources, experienced consultants and latest technology.

We have the same management and team you know and trust, and as Corporate Blue we will continue delivering the excellence in service synonymous with Travelfest.

There is one point-of-difference, however. Corporate Blue will also provide travel and incentive management within the corporate marketplace as our business develops into the future.

Rest assured that our unmatched quality travel experience will remain the primary focus for Corporate Blue as we enter this exciting phase of our life and cement the company within the corporate travel industry.

Our new fees are out and many have remained at the same level, as we strive to deliver you the best possible deals. We also have some special fares listed which could help your future budgets and assist with planning your year.

Iris

There's little worse when you want to get home as fast as possible, than waiting in a queue at airport immigration. Fortunately, there is a way to speed up your exit from the airport - the UK Immigration Service's new IRIS programme.

You register the iris of your eye, which is photographed when you go to new unmanned immigration barriers, alongside the existing immigration barriers. The barrier then opens and lets you through. The exit process takes just two seconds.

CAN I USE IRIS?
You can apply to use IRIS if you are:

  • a permanent resident of the UK;
  • permitted to enter or remain in the UK for more than six months and you have more than two months left of your leave to enter or remain;
  • a short-term visitor to the UK and you can demonstrate you have been granted leave to enter the UK as a visitor on at least two occasions in the last six months, or four occasions in the last 12 months; if you require a visa to visit the UK, you will also need a current entry clearance that is effective as leave to enter the UK and has more than two months validity left ;
IRIS is already available in the following UK airport terminals:

  • London Heathrow Airport - Terminals 1,2,3,4
  • London Gatwick Airport - North terminal (South Terminal due mid-April)
  • Manchester Airport - Terminals 1,2
  • Birmingham Airport - Terminal 1

All you have to do to take advantage of this service is register by going to the designated area of the departure lounge at any participating airport. The process takes just five minutes as Home Office immigration officers record your passport information and UK immigration status on a database along with a photograph of your iris pattern.

The process has been designed by the Home Office, is safe and efficient, and, presently, is completely free.

So, why not register and beat those queue blues?
