A Hidden Gem – The Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley, located 45 minutes from Melbourne, is a hidden gem with a wealth of opportunity for conferencing and events.

All the properties in the area are suitable for anything, from a weekend getaway to a large conference group, and everything in between.

Weddings, parties, launches, corporate days and incentives can all be easily managed in this sometimes overlooked, yet wonderful, area.

Below we take a look at a selection of venues on offer.
Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort and Spa

The rooms and suites are very professional, modern, and spacious, with all necessary amenities.  Overlooking lovely views of the resort there is always a sense of newness at Balgownie Estate.

Home to a good conference facility for a medium sized group of up to about 80 people this is a great conference area.

Plenty of room surrounds the resort for all sorts of activities, including an indoor pool, spa treatment rooms, gym, and the Estates own restaurant overlooking the Valley with the vineyards in the foreground.

Professional, modern, new, and of an excellent standard, I would consider this a great venue.

The Country Place in Olinda

What a hidden gem surrounded by beautiful gardens and a wonderful forest giving it an excellent outward view.

There are lovely decking and lawn areas suitable for an outside meal from the County Place’s great restaurant serving an international standard of food from a great local chef.

Accommodation is clean and of a nice three-star motel standard.

The function rooms at the Country Place are great, with a smaller room set on stilts to give amazing natural light, while the main ballroom is suitable for a large group of up to 120 banquet style.

There is also a great low and high rope-course team building facility available on the grounds.
Immerse in The Yarra Valley
& Indulge Day Spa

What a find!  This has to be one of my favourites in the Yarra Valley.

Offering 18 small rooms including cottages and individual suites, all are of an excellent standard, and some of the best in the Yarra Valley.

They also offer an incredible opportunity allowing small groups to block off the resort for sole use once a group has eight people.

The garden areas are lovely centred round the main octagonal building.

Guests are also offered an honour bar system following dinner.  The restaurant looks fantastic with a good covered outdoor decking.

Immerse also features the Indulge Day Spa offering very competitive rates.  They have great treatment rooms and excellent and professional staff to offer world class spa treatments.

This is a fantastic conference area for small groups with plentiful areas for fun activities from this gem.

Also, did I mention how friendly the staff is?

The Sebel Heritage

Based right on a golf course, which has to win over some groups on that basis alone, even more so when I mention the two internationally designed courses are by Jack Nicklaus and Tony Cashmore!

The accommodation is lovely, large rooms, and nicely decorated with all the trappings of a modern city hotel, from in room movies and room service, to a pool, gym, spa, the list goes on.

With almost 100 rooms on this property, it is well placed for larger groups.

Let’s hope they build the new wing that is currently being planned, as The Sebel Heritage does events at an exceptional level, and this extra space could be well used in the future.

The conference space is huge in comparison to most, and of a very professionally nature, with natural light, individual control lighting, plenty of power outlets, and modem links in trapdoors.

An excellent option for the golfer/spa set and a larger group.
Marylands Country House

A wonderful place, you feel like you are in a warm country house from the minute you walk in, with very comfortable lounges.

This is also how the break-out areas for a conference are set up as well making for one of the most comfortable break-out areas I have ever seen!

The restaurant is manned by a chef who previously worked at the Ritz and the Dorchester in London creating great conference food with a variety of choices like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

Home to a great restaurant, a well sized indoor pool, and fantastic lawns and gardens.

With a good smaller gym and billiards room as a great way of keeping the delegates together during an evening, the function space is large and suitable for up to 200 banquet style in the main room while boasting other rooms as well.

Marylands also has function rooms on both sides of the property allowing for two conference groups to remain completely separate.

The accommodation rooms are lovely, not quite as nice as Balgownie for example, but of a very good four-star standard.  A truly wonderful feel surrounds this property.

The Cumberland Marysville & Villa Day Spa

A great three-star style conference centre with excellent pool and spa.

Accommodation is of a good, nice and clean three-star standard motel style and a great option for those on a budget.

You will receive more than you pay for at The Cumberland.
